Jordan Barker is a full time educator, music arranger and composer based in Houston, Texas. He is fortunate to write music for groups across the United States as well as be on the writing staff for Alfred Music.

As an educator, Jordan is the Assistant Band Director at Pearland High School in Pearland, Texas. Ensembles under his direction have received consistent UIL Sweepstakes as well as send numerous students to TMEA Region Bands as well as several Area Qualifiers. As a part of the band staff, his responsibilities include the beginning visual fundamentals at Pearland High School, the Concert and Prep Band, and assisting with the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. The Pearland High School Band is a consistent participant at UIL State Marching Contest, Area E Finalist and Champion, as well as a Finalist in Bands of America Regional and Super Regional events. They were also a Grand National Finalist in 2023. The Pearland Band is thrilled to participate in the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2026.

As a designer, groups he has written for have been consistent BOA regional participants, UIL Area participants and Finalists, State Marching Band participants, and finalists/class champions in the USBands circuit.

Jordan has had an active career in the Drum Corps International summer activity as both a member and staff member. He was a member of the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps in 2016-2018 as a part of trumpet section, with small dabbles in mellophone. Jordan was fortunate to learn from some of the best designers and teachers in the activity during this time such as Jay Bocook, Kevin Shah, Mike Jackson, Jed Weeks, Chad Pence, and Brad Toth who have all influenced him greatly. He returned to the organization in 2022 as a member of the brass staff and the design team production assistant.

Jordan received his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Houston, studying with Mr. David Bertman, Dr. Cory Meals, and Dr. Cameron Kubos. He studied trumpet with Mr. Mark Hughes of the Houston Symphony as well as studying composition with Dr. Marcus Maroney and Dr. Rob Smith.

Jordan lives in the suburbs of Houston with his dog, Lucy. He throughly enjoys Topo Chico, Diet Coke, Netflix medical dramas, and warm sunny days full of band.
